This month has been a roller coaster of up and downs. As I write this I am on a bus leaving the mountains we have been living in all month! Africa is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been! We took a 15 hour bus from Nairobi, Kenya to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. The second bus went through a national park. We got to see monkeys, zebras, giraffes, and antelope. After that eight hour segment of travel we finally made it to our destination for the month! We walked into to a house with six rooms, and indoor plumbing. A luxury I haven’t had since month one!! WE also had a real western toilet, INDOORS, well it didn’t have a toilet seat… but it was a toilet!!! We had two bathrooms and another squatty outside our house, making it wonderful for all 10 of us WOMEN living in the house.
When we got debriefed on what our ministry for the month would look like we found out that we would be split up into teams of 2-3 people and sent to a village to evangelize! The disappointment and fear that began welling up as I took in the news I can still feel!! I didn’t want to be sent into a village, with only one other person, without a phone. I mean what if something happened. Well God has such a sense of humor! I was, in fact, sent to the bush of Africa with only a translator and a team mate and something did happen!!!
We were welcomed to the village by the church choir! It was beautiful. We kicked off the evening sharing Jesus with a man who was very eager to learn! When we were finished we ate supper and got to plan our weekend. The whole time my team mate was not feeling good at all. The next day, we woke up with the plan of going to a farm to help build a well. However, those plans got changed when I realized how sick my friend was. After I got back from hoeing the pastor's garden I saw how she was doing and got ahold of our team leader. I was amazingly able to get a hold him an hour after asking for the call to be made. (That’s Africa for you) While Kaylynn was resting, eight people from the church decided to join us for the evening! I got to share my story with them and pray over them. God put pictures on my heart to share with them and I got to speak life into who they are in Christ!
Over all, the village was amazing! It was your traditional African village! We got to stay in a very small, dark mud hut, with tiny windows that barely let in any sunlight. It was the experience of a life time and one I will never forget.
