This month I’ve been living in a village, in the southernmost part of Cambodia. Living in a village is always quite the adventure. To invite you in to our normal day I’ve came up with a list of our day to day norms or even just some random occurrences. Here goes:
- Waking to children laughing and playing
- A crab in my eraser on the desk. (did I mention we’re an hour away from the beach.)
- Using a black, Old Navy tank top as an eraser.
- Random animals in the house, church and school- including dogs, chickens, and geese.
- Waking in the middle of the night to a chicken walking on our pillows!
- Hearing “Mango” yelled periodically throughout the day when they hit the ceiling of one of the houses by the Americans and then a race by the Cambodians to claim it!
- A goose wearing headphones! (Cambodian geese seem to love music, ha ha)
- The geese, dogs and chickens hovering around the table begging for food at every meal! (Our dining room, living room, kitchen, and “laundry room” are all outside.)
- A shrimp in our "bath tub."
- Playing "Angry Birds" a game our contact taught us requiring us to learn Cambodian animal noises. We didn't know ants made a noise
In all seriousness I’ve truly enjoyed living here for the month. I am sad to see the month come to an end! I taught 2 two hour classes. Both classes finished book one of their English studies and I am testing them! Coming up with a test on eight units and a grading system proved challenging but was so much fun. I loved every minute of it! Teaching is by far one of my favorite things to do. I’ve enjoyed getting to build personal relationships with the students and am gonna miss them when I leave.
