Hi mum!
So today is no quite Mother's day, well at least here in Nairobi, Kenya it isn't! But HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
I have spent a long time trying to figure out what I could do or say. Honestly I wanted to make you a sweet video so you could see my beautiful face and hear my voice, but Typhoid kind of ruined that one. But I can tell you what you mean to me.
I can't remember the last Mother's day I spent with you, I think I was still in high school or maybe just starting college, but that doesn't mean that I didn't talk to you on those days. You would think after not spending that day with you for the last few years would make this year a little easier. Well it's not. somehow even greater distances makes the heart grow even more fonder. I Love you mom! And I don't know what I would do without your encouragement and support while out here on the race. It makes my heart sing to know that you are praying for me and loving on me even from thousands of miles away. I have missed being able to call you up whenever I want to just to chat. I know we have had our moments, but I can always run to you with anything.
Although I can't make you any small trinkets like I did when I was little, or bring you breakfast in bed, or even come visit you, and now I can't make a video for you I can tell you why you are the best.
- You had to sleep on your side during the latter months of your pregnancy.
- You endured labor to bring me out to the world.
- I bet you hardly slept those first few months feeding me while all I did was eat, sleep and poop.
- You stayed up with me when I was sick with the flu or chicken pox and even an ulcer.
- You share in my insomnia when I wrestle through issues.
- You worry and wonder if there was something you didn't do or do enough of.
- You gave me so much grace and compassion and love.
- You were always my biggest cheerleader at all my games, plays, competions, concerts and etc.
- You always bandaged me up and Lord knows how many band-aids we went through. (Remember that time you shaved my head and put butterfly band-aids on my scalp because I didn't want stiches)
- You let me come to your work so I wouldn't have to take the bus home.
- You let me try things out for myself.
- You almost always answer your phone whenever I call.
- You give the best advice.
- You listen to me vent and cry and then you tell me that you love me.
- Your place is always open.
- You make my favorite foods whenever I visit.
- You gave me your beauty.
- You fought my battles for me when I couldn't.
- You sang that obnoxious yet effective good morning song that I will probably sing to my children.
- I bet you were not expecting me to call you at 2 AM saying I want to be a missionary, but you still told me to go for it. Being on the mission field has taught me valuable lessons of sacrifice and surrender yet I can only imagine how difficult and how much faith it requires to release me to the Lord.
- You're the best blog reader and commenter.
- You're the best student and teacher. I can care for and nurture the children I meet, especially orphans, only because I was the recipient of your care and nurturing.
I don't know where I would be without you in my life. Thanks for being so AMAZING, wonderful, caring, loving, and compassionate. If I know you like I think I do you are probably crying and though that was not my intention I hope they are tears of love and joy. I hope you realize that my dreams are coming true and it's all becuase of your love. And don't worry mom I'll make it home in one piece. I promise!
I LOVE YOU!!
Your first daughter,
Angela Marjory Grit
