I am a Princess.
I Am a Princess.
I. Am. A. Princess.
and so are you.
A princess what does that even mean?
A princess is most adored throughout history. She is royal, beautiful, and admired. She holds hopes and dreams in her heart and smile. She is confident, radiant, and courageous. The daughter of a king. She is not yet a queen, her life is rich with possibility and, one day, a promise of a throne.
I was placed by grace in the royal family of God. Daughter of the king. Royal. Beautiful. Admired. Courageous. Confident. My life is rich of possibilty. And I have the promise of sitting on a throne next to Jesus. Therefore, I am a princess.
Sadly in today's world the name princess has a bad rap. You see it everywhere and it cheapens the meaning. It's on shirts, pants, bumper stickers, keychains, mirrors, toys, and rhinestone studded onto thongs. Who wants called a princess when it seems so common? Nicole Johnson author of Keeping a Princess Heart in a Not-So-Fairy-Tale World, says this about it all:
"What it [princess] means is so cheapened by its commonness that it has nothing to offer us. Far from elevating the idea of princess the culture tattoos it everywhere, but on the one place it matters the most: our hearts. We are living in a culture where image is everything. Because of this the idea of having a princess heart is far less attractive than putting on a princess face."

Let's dig in a little deeper for the moment shall we? Ok so we are not living in a fairy tale kingdom with our own castle. Currently I am living out of a backpack and share a room with 7 girls and one bathroom. Not exactly what you would call the fairy tale life. But I am living in a kingdom and I am not talking about the kingdom of Thailand. I am, and so are you, living in the Kingdom of God, stuck in this fallen world. Those who we elevate to princess status are those who seem to have it all and look the fairest of them all. People like celebraties. We try our best to look like them and act like them even if it means cosmetic surgery. Johnson writes, "Everything about this world is fallen and we all have the sags to prove it. Our bodies suffer as well as our souls under the weight of the world that should have been otherwise. But surgery is not the answer. There is no salvation under the knife because tissue is not th issure. The deeper issue lies in our hearts."
The issue lies within our hearts.
"As we think in our hearts so are we."
Proverbs 23:7

I want you to recall the story of Snow White. Her step mother is queen of the land and according to her magic mirror on the wall she is also the fairest of them all. The queen made Snow White dress in rags because she could see that Snow White was beautiful. One day after asking the mirror who was the fairest it replied Snow White is the fairest of them all. The queen was furious and she summoned her huntsman to go out into the woods with Snow White and kill her. Then she asked for him to bring back her heart. What an odd request don't you think? Yeah she wanted to make sure she was dead, but why would she want the heart. Well it was Snow White's heart that made her beautiful. The dwarfs even saw that she was a princess because they saw that her heart shone like the many diamonds that they mined. Having a princess heart is what makes you beautiful not a princess face.
"Who can give a woman this, her own name? God alone. For no one but God knows and delights in who is is and who she will become"
George MacDonald
No one but God can recognize you fully.
No one but God can love you so completely.
No one but God can fulfill your hearts deepest desires.
No one but God can name you Princess.
The Lord has redeemed your name. Walk in that knowledge that you are a princess. Hold it in your heart that the Prince of Peace is waiting for you. The King of the universe is your father. You have dual citizenship right now. Your body is living and working on earth while your heart is in the invisible kingdom that won't be so invisible soon. We are all princesses currently living in a not so fairy tale world.
