Power
of Prayer

Before I moved down to Gainesville I
had been talking to my pastor about prayer. I have always wanted to
see my prayer turn into a miracle, you know seeing a deaf person be
able to hear, a person who has cancer be healed, or seeing a dead man
raised back to life. I have seen some small miracles and that has
been amazing but part of me just wants to see a “Big” miracle.
But wait! Arn’t all miracles “Big”
miracles? Ok cool but I want to see more! Maybe that is just me being
a little selfish wanting to see more of God’s glory, more of God’s
power, more of God’s Awesomeness! But seriously how can I jump on
this bus of getting to be involved in God’s awesome miracles?
Let me throw out an idea about prayer
and how that applies to Gods awesome miracles. Growing up in the
church you learn how to pray these long elegant prayers. When someone
is sick you may spend ten minutes praying over them. But what if that
was not necessary? What if all we had to do was say sickness leave?
In Roman chapter 8 it talks about having the same spirit of Christ
Jesus who was raised from the dead. So how did Jesus pray?
“5 Which
is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up
and walk’?” (Matthew 9:5)
“28 When
he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them,”Do
you believe that I am able to do this?”
“Yes,
Lord,” they replied.29″Then
he touched their eyes and said,”According to your faith let it be
done to you”;30and
their sight was restored.” (Matthew 9:28-30)
25″When
Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,he rebuked the impure
spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I
command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”26 The
spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out.” ( Mark
9:25-26)
“48 Then
he said to her, “Daughter,
your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:48)
These
are just a few of the examples that we have about the way Jesus went
around healing people. Now I am not going to lie, when I started
reading into this I got super excited. I could not wait to go meet
someone that needed some healing, could not wait to see the miracle.
Then the fear set in, what if the person did not get healed?, what if
I looked silly?, what if I got laughed at? Fear overtook me just as
fast and the excitement had come in. Now I was left with the “what
next feeling”. Then I came across this verse: “39 He
went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing?
The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But
they laughed at him.( Matthew 5:
39-40)

Ok what? They laughed at Jesus?
Seriously? So Jesus, the guy who came to save the world got laughed
at. Then I guess if I were to get laughed at it would just be taking
one for team Jesus! That does not seem so bad because I know that the
same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead is living inside
of me. With Jesus on my side, I got this. So Fear you have no control
over me! I want to live a life like Jesus did. I want to pray bold
prayer and live freely!
So just to clarify. Do I think long
prayers are bad or pointless? No I do not. I just personally want to
live a bolder life. Therefore I want to be bolder in my prayers as
well. If you have a story about prayer and seeing how the Lord worked
in that please post a comment and share it! Lets be bolder in our prayers.
