To my family, friends, and dearest blog readers,
My name is Angela Aston, I am 21 years old and I believe that Jesus Christ is alive today. I recently returned from an 11 month – 11 country mission’s trip called the World Race, part of Adventures in Missions. During the past year I travel to places such as: Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and India. In these countries we partnered with many organizations blessing their ministries, bringing the message of God’s Kingdom to the people. My team had opportunities including working in hospitals, orphanages, teaching in schools, leading VBS, preaching, and much more. This was an amazing experience where God revealed Himself to me in so many ways. This was one of the hardest, yet most amazing experiences. My life has been transformed through the passion of Jesus Christ into something I could have never dreamed. Going on this trip took faith, but living this radical life for Christ is a walk of faith.
Stepping out in faith
After returning from the World Race, I knew the Lord had some wonderful plans in store for this next season on my life. Last month, I took a trip to Gainesville Georgia where I met with the head of Adventure in Missions (AIM) Seth Barnes. As I shared my passions and what the Lord has been reveling about my life with Him, Seth Barnes asked me to look into some programs with AIM. That’s what I did; after much prayer the Lord gave me peace and showed me exactly where I am supposed to be. That place is being a part of the Encounter program, developing short term, family and custom mission trips. The Encounter program gives people an amazing opportunity to step out of the American life style, having their hearts broken for the people of this world. They will find an avenue to explore their calling, passion, experience adventure, and develop a deeper relationship with Christ. Without you none of this is possible!
What this next year looks like?
On January 4th 2012, I will be moving to Gainesville to begin an internship with the Adventures in Missions Encounter program. I will learn the process for planning and organizing mission trips to Costa Rica, Israel, and the Appalachian Mountain region. I am excited about the possibility of leading some of these trips. Another exciting aspect of the Encounter program, I get the opportunity to plan and lead a trip to a location AIM has not been to before. I will be a disciple and involved in disciplining others. We are building this program from the ground up; we will learn the process involved in setting up mission trips. Things like developing leadership curriculum, establishing contacts, booking flights and ministry opportunities. Our team will develop a training process for individuals to go through before departure and a debriefing process for reentry to US culture on returning home. I am excited for this new opportunity and challenge. I feel so blessed that the Lord has chosen me for this.
How can you get involved?
1. Prayer: Partner with me in prayer, the Lord is amazing and listens when we pray.
2. Support: I will be 100% support raised as an intern with AIM. My goal is to raise $1,500 a month in support. This support covers things like, rent, food, gas, electricity and other necessities. I am looking for one time donations or if so lead monthly donors (preferred). Please pray about God’s plan for you joining of my team of supporters. If you would like to support me please see the options below for details.
3. Share: Share the vision of missions with others, by sharing my story others can get involved. God may use this as an opportunity to inspire others to explore Adventures in Missions. The organization offers all kinds of opportunities for those interested in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
4. Keep updated: I will post blogs at http://Angelaaston.theworldrace.orgo check out the amazing things God and I are up to. Post messages to me I love hearing from my friends and family.
