I’ve gotten the question lately, “what exactly does ministry look like? What do you do? How is the Lord at work there?”

Great questions. It’s hard to answer though.
I find myself struggling to put pen to paper when it comes to letting you all into the ministry aspect of this trip.
Why?
The things my eyes see are heartbreaking. They hurt in the worst kind of way. So I keep it to myself in hopes that my mind will somehow comprehend all that I see. But that isn’t fair to you.
You who spend time and energy praying and giving to this trip. You deserve to know what I see and how the Lord works in the midst of the worst sorrows.
So here it goes….

Ministry in Adjahui (the village my team and I live in)

Our village is a very dark place. Not in the sense of the lack of actual light, though there is little of that here. I’m talking about spiritual darkness. You can feel it in the air. It’s evil.

Let me paint a picture for you.
Imagine a blank canvas.
White. Clean. Prestige.
Now imagine the artist of this canvas painting a tree. A fruitful, powerful tree directly in the center.
He lays a firm foundation of perfect green grass.
Adds beautiful homes, all evenly spaced out. Just enough room for you to find peace when you need it.
This canvas is home.
It’s good. It’s pure. It’s safe for its people.
But soon an enemy of the artist comes in and makes a mess of the masterpiece.
No longer making it white, clean and prestige.
He comes in and destroys what has been made good.
With him he brings friends. Evil and cunning like him.
They whisper to the people appealing but empty promises.
The people leave the artist.
But He sits day and night, hoping for the return of His first love.

Meanwhile, His first loves are now lost in the empty promises of the enemy and can’t find their way back. So they walk around day and night like zombies, dead but somehow still walking among the living.

This is our village.

So today we passed out 48 bibles in this village.
Bibles. God’s living and true word.

Our prayer for the day was that God would breathe life into each person that received a Bible. That simply opening it would change their whole life. That a revival would start in their soul and they would never be the same.

With each bible we handed out came a prayer as well.
You see, language barriers are difficult. Especially when wanting to share the gospel. So I rely on the joy of the Lord to be my language because your girl does not know French and these people do not know English. I’ve found this method works in 100% of all cases. It’s pretty stickin rad!

Are you waiting for something extraordinary to happen in this story? Are you hoping to hear that dozens of people got saved and committed their lives to Christ? Or that at least one person said yes to Jesus?

The truth is, ministry isn’t like that most days.
Ministry is days like today where you simply hand out Bibles, God’s living and true word, and pray a prayer over a person.

You walk away hoping, begging the Lord that they read it or at the very least open it.
You walk away knowing you planted a seed and you pray for a waterer to come along.
Sometimes you get to be the waterer but if you aren’t you accept your job, give glory to the Father and move on.

So today we passed out 48 bibles in our dark village.
Bibles. God’s living and true word.
Today the artist picked up his brush and started painting again.
The enemy stands and watches but has no power over what the artist will draw next.

So we wait, we love and we pass out Bibles, God’s living and true word, in anticipation for the artist’s next work.
