Israel had turned their back towards God and then had the audacity to claim that God had abandoned them when in reality He has never, nor will He ever leave. Israel was on the edge of being wiped out by the midianites and God, not going to let that happen, decided to raise up a young man to lead the Israelite army. But not just any man. He got the best candidate for the job. He got the weakest guy from the weakest family from the weakest tribe to, according to Judges 6:16, “defeat Midian as one man..”

If speaking of strength, leadership, military tactics, really anything that would make you seem like a dude that could lead an army, Gideon was pathetic… He had no backbone and no formal training on how to lead an army. But he had a few things that most people don’t have or look over as if they were nothing. He was obedient to and had faith in God! He trusted God in everything, even when God decided take his army down from 32,000 to 300! God told Gideon to send 31,700 men home for one reason, He wanted everyone who was left to look to God at the end of the battle and acknowledge that it was only God who got them through it!

Gideon never questioned God, even when God was taking people away from his army. He trusted in God and obeyed his every command. That is why Gideon and his army defeated the midianites. It wasn’t because of his amazing military tactics, he had none. It wasn’t his physical strength, cause that boy was weak! He trusted God… Thats it.

How many of us can say that when we face mountains we whole heartedly trust in the Lord to get us over that mountain?
