I had the privilege of attending the beginning of a seminar this morning and I wanted to share some of the thoughts that I walked away with. Unity may be the biggest missing piece in the church today. It may also be the key to unlocking the things that so many of us dream about and pray for. I am coming to believe that if we all start to commit to unity on a new level, not just when it’s with people that we already mostly agree with, but with people that we are not sure what to do with and those we believe are wrong even; if all commit to choose unity in the things that we do agree on, instead of focusing on the things we disagree on. And, commit to love each other no matter what part of the process we are in. If we start to share Christ in a way that promotes love above all else. If we stop dividing and bickering over the things that don’t really matter and focus on the one thing that does. That God sent his only son to die for us because he loved us so much that nothing else mattered to him.
If we do that, then I believe that we will start to see things happen that we have never seen before. Satan knows that a house dived against it self will fall. And that is why he fights so hard to stop unity in the Church. He knows that if we stop spending our energy defending our selves to each other and against each other and instead put all of our energy in to loving each other and others, that he won’t stand a chance. How can we expect people to want to be a part of what we are doing if we can’t even agree on what we are doing.
This doesn’t mean that we need to become a homogenized group of people that all agree on everything. We can and should all maintain our individuality. Every church has its strengths and weaknesses, that’s what makes all different parts of the body. But rather than pointing out each others flaws we need to start calling out each others strengths and speaking life into every part of the body. To say “yes and amen” to the men and women that we fight along side even in we don’t always agree with them.
I say all of this not to condemn but rather to point out that we don’t have to keep doing things the way we have been doing them. There are alternatives, if we want different results them we are going to have to find different approaches.
I love and miss you all and I repent to you for having played my part in the division in the Church. I hope that any of you I have hurt because of things that I have said or done can forgive me and we can begin to work together in unity.
