I’ve mentioned this before, but after I first came to Christ, I began experiencing a tactile sense accompanied by pictures and (sometimes) words. Call them visions if you will. I like to think that maybe the Lord likes to speaks to me through my tactile sense from time to time. The days leading up to training camp, I asked some of my squad mates if they have ever looked at a person and thought, “Wow. This person totally personifies this color to me.” I do that sometimes and have from time to time since college. Again, for me, it’s like I experience a tactile sense accompanied by a color and sometimes a word. They all kind of laughed at first, but then they proceeded to ask me what color I thought everyone personified.
I treated this whole thing like a game until one of my coaches at training camp said, “That sounds like it could be a prophetic gift. You should ask the Lord about it.” Since then, I started thinking. Maybe there is something to unlock here. Maybe the Lord is playing this game with me. Maybe He is once again speaking to me through my sense of touch. Either way, I really want to step out in faith and test this out (something I was hesitant to do at first). Lord, give me words and help me grow in obedience to your commands.
So here we go! In alphabetical order by first name, let me introduce you to my squad mates as I see them!
- Aleesa B. – cyan
- A very electric blue. Very lively and constantly moving. Whether a centerpiece or an accessory, it draws the eye in and makes things “pop.” Never dull, always vibrant.
- Andrew G. – bright red
- This color is passionate and “in your face.” Can come off a bit abrasive and maybe too intense at times, but is warm and energetic. Can be captivating to others because of an unconventional approach to life. “Unapologetically yourself” kind of color.
- Anna C. – clear but reflective
- Like a diamond. Every time you look, there is something else to see. Many sides. Much deeper than you can tell from a first glance. Shimmering, reflective. Does not hide but instead reveals the hidden.
- Ashley S. – mocha brown
- Warm and inviting. A favorite of many. This color (to me) speaks “ease of conversation.” Very comforting. Actions are rich and powerful, leaving behind a sweet and loving aftertaste.
- Ben S. – evergreen
- This color is deeply rooted and mature, like an evergreen tree deep in the mountains. It is sturdy and immovable. FIRMLY PLANTED. Through his existence, he chants the praises to the One who created him in a low rumble. His body has seen and encounter a lot. His very presence exudes wisdom.
- Caleb D. – dusty red (like embers in a small fire)
- Passionate without ever being “too much.” Not in your face, but draws you in. Comfortable and warm, almost hypnotizing. Optimistic. The fire is growing, not dying. A kindling that quickly catches fire and spreads to others.
- Carly M. – light orange
- A transition color. This one is kind of vague for me to describe, but maybe that’s the point! This color can see both sides at the same time and find a happy middle ground between. Important in forming connections between people from varying lifestyles and opinions.
- Colby W. – yellow
- Vibrant and optimistic. This color is relentlessly energetic. The definition of lively! Fluctuates between pastel and soft to electric and “loud.” Easily recognized and catches the eyes of those around him. Can easily draw people’s attention. Captivating.
- Courtney S. –light yellow (like a baby chick)
- Gentle and pure. “New life” kind of color. Reminiscent of happy times/nostalgic. Peacefully joyful, making those around her calm and happy as well. Steady flow of energy, never being “too much.”
- Emilie B. – DEEP Blue (almost black)
- This color is so deep, in fact, that you cannot see the bottom. To me, this speaks “unending depth of emotion and creativity.” Access to deep wells of wisdom and creativity from which to tap.
- Emilie M. – minty green
- Refreshing and breezy. I get the imagery of someone standing in an open field/meadow. A whirlwind picks up and blows by. Gentleness and peaceful tranquility.
- Jake O. – golden brown
- Costly and worth very much in the eyes of many. To me, these earth tones signify “ease of connection” with others. Tested and withstood the test of time. Shiny and attracts the attention of others. Heading into a season even greater value where his company will be deeply desired by others.
- Jen S. – deep, royal purple
- To me, this color feels very regal. I imagine a deep purple box filled with a costly treasure on the inside. Seen as very valuable to others, but needs to be opened in order to be the blessing that it can be for others.
- John S. – eggshell white
- Pure potential. Everyone around waiting expectantly to see what it will become. No need to become something different; just the simple act of being true to themselves is what attracts others to them. The Lord sees this as a blank canvas, ready to explode with color and vibrancy. SO much potential here, it may seem overwhelming. But once the Lord is done, a new masterpiece will emerge.
- Jon B. – red, white, and blue (seriously, I tried to think of another one, but this color scheme keeps jumping out to me, so I’m going with it!)
- To me, these colors symbolize a complex battle within. Fiercely passionate one moment, calm and collected the next. Emotionally complex, easily able to connect with others. Instills a sense of interconnectedness with others, pulling people in and making everyone feel like they have a place in his community.
- Joseph C. – BRIGHT orange (like a traffic cone)
- Stops and ponders. Wants to fully experience the moment and understand it. Knows there is always something to unlock at any given moment in time. Strikingly bright, causing others to stop and think as well.
- Julie W. – azure blue
- Pure and endless emotion. Storm clouds are gone and entering a season of pure bliss and sunshine. Takes you by surprise. Comes at the most opportune time, bringing peace and happiness to those around them.

- Light and happy, springing new life! A color of joy, especially while experiencing life with others. Lives for community, and loves to pour into others for their benefit and joy.
- Kelly F. – pear green
- Refreshing presence and peaceful countenance. Unconventional in their approach, but not ever pretending to be someone that they are not. Can be added into any mix and find a place to belong. Adaptable.
- Kristen H. – light/smokey grey
- Touched by fire, but withstood the trial. The Lord has placed a hand over this person, and now they emit a fragrance that is pleasing to Him, though at times misunderstood by others. Passionate, especially about sharing their experiences with others. Nurtures others by providing deep wisdom and perspective.
- Kylie C. – black and white (specifically, a block box with a white question mark)
- This is very mysterious to me, as if something *super precious* is hidden in the box that no human can open by their own strength. I believe the Lord will reveal this special hidden gift at the opportune time.
- Lauren B. – bright pink
- Unapologetically herself. Loud and proud, does not back down. She knows herself and where she came from. Bold and unwavering. Faith in herself and her God to move mountains.
- Lauren K. – pearl white with light pink speckles
- Pure and full of potential, like an egg that’s ready to hatch. Flies high in the sky with the best of them. Clean and unblemished in His sight, despite what some people deem as “impurities.” The pink speckles are aspects of unique personality that create character, not flaws. This is done by intelligent design, therefore with great purpose and intentionality.
- Laurie M. – burgundy
- This color is deep and passionate with a hint of spunky energy. Unconventional sense of humor. Love for people. Motivated and self-driven. Does not need to be told to do something in order to be effective.
- Lee C. – dark lime green
- Ripe and ready to be picked. After much pruning and waiting, the time is now! The fruit is sweet and received well by others. Experiences seasons of abundance alternating with season of waiting. These waiting periods (at first) seem to be times of decay, but on the contrary, the tree has been firmly planted and is not dying. You cannot expect fruit all year round. There are times to grow and times to harvest the fruit.
- Maci N. – chartreuse
- Unconventional and extremely unique. Another color of new life, but in a less obvious way. Another “unapologetically yourself” kind of color. Electric! Adds an extra bit of spice to any situation!
- McKenzie M. – “Stained Glass;” rainbow/holographic with white borders
- The color keep shifting to me. Alternates between several hues and shades. To me, this means multiple ways to connect with others. Like a chameleon, can change to match their surroundings depending on the situation. Idea that pops into my head: Like Paul says in 1 Corinthian 9:22 (NIV), “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.”
- Michael W. – white and blue sky pattern reflected across a horizontal plane.
- This one is hard to describe. Imagine for a second a reflective pond of water. There is nothing to see for miles except for the water. Above it, clusters of clouds plaster a sky blue canvas. In the middle of this scene, he stands and looks out over the water. To me, this speaks adventure not many are willing to go on. Here comes Michael, embarking on a journey by himself. Road less-traveled, for sure.
- Nate W. – steel grey
- Practically the very definition of stability. Supportive and sturdy. Can be “immovable” if the situation calls for it, but can also be adapted to fit the need of any situation. The middle ground between divine creation and human invention, allowing for others to be a part of the creative narrative of God.

- Sammiera L. – pastel green
- Life giving color/the color of growth. Has the potential to spread like wild vines to others. Peace driven through deep understanding and interconnectedness. Seeks to make everyone a part of the garden.
- Sarah Z. – earthy brown
- Comforting and familiar. Those around experience a sense of stability. Warm and inviting, never overextending themselves towards others. Will always be there when someone needs to be grounded or needs a fresh start. Makes every place they experience “home” to those around them.
- Shelby K. – blood red
- This color is very warm and passionate in a more intimate but unconventional way. Many people draw warmth from this. This color knows “new life” and wants to share with others. Deeper connections form, especially in one-on-one conversations. This love for others knows no bounds!
- Shondra D. – emerald
- Captivating and mesmerizing. You can’t help but look and be in awe. This color is deep and multifaceted. There is always something to see every time you look, no matter how many times you have looked.
- Tabitha S. – turquoise (hints of green)
- Light and bubbly! This color is joy speckled with surprises throughout! Kindness flows and abounds effortlessly. True to herself and to those around her.
- Tyler I. – camouflage
- Patient, waiting to strike at the opportune time. Not so much trying to hide as much as he is staying put and waiting expectantly for direction (especially from the Lord). More “behind the scenes” rather than “front and center.” Powerfully effective.
- Valerie F. – periwinkle
- Soft but vivid. Versatile. This color is endearing and soft spoken. Not always many words, but does not need many to portray truth and power. Non-threatening. Brings others in.
- Whitney M. – maroon/red velvet
- Deeply passionate without compromising a gentle and comforting nature. Middle ground between being grounded and being explosive. Wide emotional field with infinite possibilities to connect with others, especially when tapping into their own stories.
- Will S. – tan/clay
- Can be soft like sand, or hard as a rock depending on the need. Adaptable and malleable. The Lord desires to strengthen the clay after He has molded it into His masterpiece. Will develop a strong foundation that cannot be torn down.
Bonus: Squad Leaders/Mentor!
- Brittany – stormy grey with red hues (like fire in an active wind storm)
- To me, this paints a picture of a powerful, God-filled epiphany. The presence of God is there. There is no fear of burning because He is in the midst of the storm. He is speaking through the chaos, a message full of awe-inspiring power.
- Lynna – crimson
- A color full of heart, constantly beating. Very real and very human, something which everyone desires to latch on to. It’s familiar. In a constantly changing world, people cling to any sense of peace. Life full of sacrifice for others, seeking to further exemplify Christ to the world.
- Madison – solid gold
- Boldness and deep understanding of her worth to the King. There is a reason the Lord uses gold to exemplify the utmost worth. Boldness of faith, proclaiming to others that we are valued not by our own deeds but by being the people He created and molded us to be.
- Nick – citrus yellow/green
- Vibrancy and great joy! Fruit of the Spirit almost literally. Energy and passion abound. Can be electric, like a defibrillator, not allowing for things to die. There is always an attempt to get things to function back at full capacity (as the Lord intended). Relentless pursuit of life and passion.
- Teresa – grey sky with blue hues (like lightening)
- Sky full of tension right before a huge storm. A sense of urgency to prepare those before the lighting strikes. Forerunner for the Lord before He speaks in the Big Storm. Electricity in the air that brings about light in the darkness.
To my squad, if you think this does not apply to you, disregard it completely! This is just the impression I get being around you guys! All of this was meant with love, I promise!
In all things, be blessed!
