Our afternoons have consisted of spending time in poor community by the river here in Battambang Cambodia. We ride our bikes about 5 minutes from our house and every day the kids run to greet us and we play with them or tell them bible stories for a few hours each afternoon. It is so wonderful and so hard all wrapped into one. I love seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter, but it is so heart wrenching to see the poverty they live in. Their families are broken and are often affected by alcohol and/or drugs. Stepping into their world is sometimes surreal and so far from all that I know from back home, but I am so thankful that God has brought me around the world. Even if it is only to experience what this community looks like, it is worth it!

The reason I know it is worth it because even for a small moment of time we can show them a glimpse of underserving love. God gives us unconditional, undeserving love every day. I don’t know these kids and they probably won’t remember me after I’m gone, but hopefully they will see the love I have shared and pass it along.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound”

Isaiah 61:!
