Now some of you may ask the question," an Audi A4?" if you read my lost blog on S.A. and I would answer yes to your surprise. Then I would tell you that myself, my team, and our Exposure Students Haley Norfleet and Kendra Dueno stayed in our own house too. Of course a police officer is renting out one room, the house is kind of old, there isn't hear or AC, but we were indeed staying in our own house.
THis particular house is barred in I think all the way around, and when you first enter it, you first come down a small hall. To the left is the men's bedroom, up a few feet on the right was the women's room, and up a few more feet was the another women's room. Of course they got the two rooms and bed because the men are supposed to prefer them in EVERYTHING that we do. So yeah, that's how that goes. Then immediately to your left is where we ate. A few feet to the right was a small area that housed our bathroom, and to the left was our kitchen. There we prepared all of our delicious meals, and I helped cook or direct stir fry quite frequently! MMMMMM, delicious!!!
As far as what we would do everyday, we generally started off with a breakfast of eggs, cereal, or oatmeal. Then we would maybe go into school or the community and visit school and speak or put on a few skits such as the Dr. Skit?? or a skit I think called the " Everything" skit that had music in the back ground by Lifehouse. If you look it up on Youtube, you'll know what i'm talking about. Then in the evenings we did different things too. We sometime went into the community to pray and sing through the streets, and after that at 6 p.m., we would have time with the children/youth in the community to lead them in games, worship, and a small message. A lot of our ministry was based on them and loving on them. Then on Sunday, we again led worship and JohnFrank usually spoke during the service.
Oh, and generally for lunch we would have sandwiches, and then for dinner we generally had a family style meal of spaghetti, taco soup, pinne with spinach fetta and tomatoes, stir fry, or something simple.
And if we weren't busy with ministry, you could usually find the team chatting or playing Uno or Skip Bo, or in one of the girls rooms watching a movie or Lost. Besides that, you could also find us praying, reading Bibles or books, journaling, worshipping, or resting (my personal favorite!).
I think the greatest time we had though was when we celebrated Keeley's 21st Birthday!!
For that night, she designated a grill out. At first I didn't have an interest to sit in the smoke for a second time, but how often do you get to serve someone on their birthday, on The World Race? Maybe NEVER?! So I took advantage of that. On that night, I never thought I would get the fire going! The only would that we really had to start with was thorny, thin wood. One 2 inch spike went through into my foot and I wanted to cry like a baby, but my squadmate Lianna helped take care of me, and I got back to business. Finally the fire started going, and the cooking began. At about 11 p.m. that night, we finally had enough cooked for everyone to have one and we enjoyed our amazing dinner around the fire. Specifically for dinner, we had brats with ketchup and mustard with cheese on freshly toasted bread (SO GOOD!), Doritos, and for desert Lianna made an amazing apple cobbler/pie!!! WOW, I ate way too much that night! Yeah…out of all the birthdays i've ever been to, I must say it was the best birthday i've ever been apart of because of the beautiful fellowship, great food, and amazing memories we made around the campfire that night! Janelle even brought out her balloons and made Keeley a special crown on her special day!!!
So there you have it!!! That's S.A. in a nutshell!
Up Next is our current location, INDIA!!!
Thanks again for following along and I appreciate all of the support from you all since the beginning!
Love you all and Blessings!
Sincerely, Andrew Holloway
