Hello and thank you for keeping up with me! The last couple of days have been extremely busy since we’ve arrived in the DR. We don’t have an Internet connection at our house, so I’m writing on a note pad and will post as soon as I can go to a place with wifi.

Since our arrival, we met our American contact Meguell and his wife Catherine, and his two children Nicole (Boog-uh) who is a year and a half old, and his 4 year old daughter Samantha (Tika). They have lived in the Dominican Republic for nine years working with a ministry called Dominican Rising, in which they disciple the people and send them out to minister to their own Communities to spread the Gospel.

As far as life here, the culture is a little different than ours here. Every where we go, men always whistle at women and try to pick them up. It’s kind of disgusting and sad, but it’s nothing that can’t be changed through the power of God. The people are in desperate need of our Savior, so please pray that God would open they’re hearts and speak through of us. Also, the laws aren’t as strict here. The main means of transportation here is: our legs, bus, car, and motorcycle, with the majority being our legs :). I actually sometimes ride hanging on the side of Meguell’s truck from and to our ministries locations which is pretty fun and freeing since we never get to in the States. We actually live in a quite/wealthier community, so if you wonder about our safety, we are pretty safe as far as our homes location.  everything is in decent walking distance. The supermarket is probably 5 or 6 blocks away, and the open market is probably ten to fifteen blocks away.
The supermarket is fairly small, but they have the same things you would usually find in our grocery stores in the States. As a team, we have money on a budget so we shop together as a team and try to plan out our meals. This can be tough sometimes because of our differently taste and needs for food. Past that, we eat whatever we eat typically what we would eat on a daily basis, minus the fast food. For breakfast we usually have cereal, lunch peanut butter and jelly or ham and cheese, and dinner we cook our meal. One isn’t we had spaghetti, and last night I cooked some thin steak with black beans and rice for my team  YUM!!!!!! It definitely was a treat, and I was happy to share my Brazilian heritage with my new family.  Well, that’s it for now. I hope You come back next time for my next blog: “Our Ministries” which will give you a little more insight on what we are doing each day.

Once again, thank you for supporting me and following along on this challenging, but incredible calling the Lord has called me to. Please also keep praying for the health of our team because sickness such as stomach problems have been prevalent so far with a few.
