In the weeks leading up to my departure for the World Race,
I spent a lot of time in prayer about the role I was supposed to play on this
trip. From the beginning, I knew that God was calling me to step up as a
worship leader for my team and the entire squad. I experienced a new boldness
as I walked into, and welcomed, this leadership position. Over the last three
months God has been using this role to shape me and prepare me for something
even greater.
After we finished our month of ministry in Airlie Beach, the
entire squad met up for a few days in Darwin, Australia for a time of rest and
regrouping. We also experienced team and leader changes during our time in
Darwin. We all had a few anxious days, but when we came out the other side with
our new teams there was a sense of peace and resolve (for myself at least).
This is actually a pretty big statement to make for the fact that not one of my
old team members is on my new team! If that wasn’t enough to shake things up, I
was asked to be the leader of my team just a day earlier! As uncomfortable as I
felt with the thought of being a team leader, I knew there was only one
response to such an opportunity. I had no choice but to say yes! I silently reminded
myself, “This is why I came on the World Race, to be pushed beyond my limits to
a point where I can only depend on God day in and day out.
As a team leader, I now have the responsibility to challenge
and raise up my team members while I continue cultivating my own relationship
with Christ. I honestly have no idea what trials and tribulations I will
experience in this position, but that’s ok. The one thing I do know is that, “God
is my rock, in whom I take refuge. (2 Samuel 22:3) He has promised to be with
me every step of the way, and I know that only by the power of the Holy Spirit
will this even be possible.
“Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.
Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our
competence comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3:4-5
So, I’m guessing all of you would probably like me to
introduce my team…..right? Well, here they are!

Together, we make up team SOUL GRAFFITI! That’s right! We
chose this name for the fact that our hearts have been forever “tagged by
Christ. The Holy Spirit bears witness to our salvation and we can boldly
proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ as we go forth into the nations. This idea
of being marked by the Holy Spirit comes from 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, which says, “You
yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody.
You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry written
not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but
on tablets of human hearts.
Oh, and just so everyone knows, my computer crashed last month so it looks like from here on out I’ll be bumming one from my teammates. This might set me back with pictures but I’ll do my best to share pics as often as possible.
