Back in November I spent a day in Chicago with some of my
friends.  We only had a few hours to
explore so we wanted to see some new things (as most of us had been there
before) and have some fun.  We ended up
finding ourselves on Navy Pier in a stained glass museum looking at old and new
creations of colored glass.  It was
interesting to see the different techniques that were used throughout the years
and one of them that caught my eye was a more modern piece.

It was not sheets of colored glass soldered together as most pieces we are use
to seeing are, but instead it was large chunks of colored glass.  (I’m still not exactly sure how they were
held together)  It gave a very different
look and effect and being the person I am I wanted to get closer.  Upon closer inspection of this piece I
realized that this interesting effect was just created with large chunks of
colored glass cut into different ways.
In fact it almost appeared they had been haphazardly cut and then put
together after the fact.  This got me
thinking.

Often times in life I am so
focused on the details.  I am up close
inspecting things.  I am looking at each
detail.  I am trying to fit it all
together and make sense of it.  This is
just the person I am, and while it’s good to know details sometimes it gets in
the way of the whole picture.  I forget
to step back and look at what a beautiful creation is made when I can see all
the details put together.  When I see the
whole picture things look so different and the details don’t matter as
much.  Sometimes I can’t see the details,
because I can’t see the whole picture yet.
However, I need to have faith in and trust the one who sees and created
the picture.  If I rest in the Lord’s
faithfulness and trust him I don’t have to worry about the details as much,
because I know he is taking those things and making a beautiful picture out of
it all

So with each passing day as life
still seems to be so confusing and unclear and when I get caught in those
details I try to remind myself that the Lord is putting each piece into place
to create a beautiful picture that one day I’ll be able to see too.  I will understand why each piece was placed
where it was and why each piece looks the way it does.  So until I can see that picture I will trust
in the one who is making that picture.
