On December 21, 2001, when I was 17 life in my family changed forever. On that day my cousin Madison was born and my aunt and uncle adopted her. They had been trying to adopt for awhile and just a month before had met Maddie’s birth mom and found out that things were going to work out. When Maddie was born our family changed forever, for the best. Now Madison is 9 and one amazing kid! The thing about Maddie is that even though she is adopted she is no different than any one of us. She is just as important a piece to our family as anyone. So much so that often times we forget she is adopted at all.

This morning while talking about Romans with my M:10 family we came across these vereses.
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the
children of God. The Spirit you received does not
make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather,
the Spirit you received brought about your adoption
to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we
are God’s children. Now if we are children, then
we are heirs-heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,
if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we
may also share in his glory.
Romans 8:14-17
I read this last night, but it didn’t jump out at me. However, this morning when people began to talk about how awesome it is to think that God adopted us, He chose us to be part of His family. We are His heirs and we are all co-heirs with Christ. I thought of our family dynamic. Just as Maddie is as much a piece of our family as any of us who were born into it, so are we just as much a part of God’s family.
How cool is that??
