When in Uganda…

-you may get to stay in a resort for a few days for debrief 

-said resort may be right on the Nile river

-you may get to hammock by the Nile river

-you may lose what are the odds and have to jump into the pool fully clothed. 

-you may get to raft the Nile

-you may get malaria…you may get it in Cambodia and it doesn’t show up until 3 months later. 

-you may get to take bucket showers and use squatty potties for the whole month

-you may get to experience your first African church service…it’s nothing like a Mennonite church service

-you may get to stay with an awesome host family

-you may get the privilege of having an amazing woman cook you amazing food like brownies, cake, and cookies. 

-you may get to do house to house evangelism for the first time

-you may get to plan a whole day of youth activities

-you may get to celebrate Christmas with your host family! 

-you may get to love on lots of children who just want to hold your hand or be held

-you may hear “bye muzungu! Bye muzungu!” everywhere you go. 

-you may get to put on a children’s Christmas program

-you may get to eat a grasshopper. 

-you may get to visit prayer mountain and spend a day with Jesus

-you may get to meet and worship with some amazing, inspiring woman who run a boys home and have a great testimony about what God is doing in their life. 

-you may get to sing lead for one of the songs in the Christmas program at church

-you may get to lead a lady to Christ and see the genuine happiness in her face 

-you may get to ride in the back of a truck that usually hauls cement…not muzungus. 

-you may get to vaccinate chickens

-you may get to go sailing on Lake Victoria!

-you may meet an American family who invites you to go sailing and to their house for pizza

-you may get to cook an American meal for your host family

 

These are just a few of the adventures we got to experience while in Uganda.  It was a fun, challenging, long, short month.
