Rwanda has been a great month so far. It has been very laid back and full of routine.
One thing I have been noticing a lot this month is the children in this country. Our host has 3 kids ages 7, 4, and 2. It has been great having little kids running around our house and hearing their little giggles.
The 4 year old, Debra, has stolen my heart. This little girl is rarely without a smile on her face and she is always acting silly and always wants to help. I have enjoyed spending time with her and taking silly pictures and videos. If I could I would pack her in my backpack and bring her home with me.
Debra isn’t the only little child I have noticed though. Everywhere we go we have little children running up to us and yelling “muzungu” and giving us hugs. These kids are so joyful and so trusting.
As I watch the kids singing and worshipping at church I am reminded of how great the faith of children is. God calls us to humble ourselves and become like children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. In Matthew 18: 2-4 it says, “And calling a child to himself he had him stand in their midst and said, ‘Truly I say to you, unless you turn around and become like young children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself like this child, this person is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.'” These young kids stand up front with their arms wide open and their eyes closed singing to their Father in heaven. It is a sight that reminds me of how I need to humble myself before my Father and worship him like these young children do.
These children don’t have a worry in the world. They trust that they will be provided for. This is the kind of faith God calls us to. He tells us to not worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34). Seeing these children running around without a care in the world is a great reminder that we don’t need to worry about what is going to happen the next day or the next week. We need to live in the moment and enjoy each day that God has blessed us with because he has something great planned for us every day. We need to run around and have fun like these little children and have faith that God is going to provide for us every day.
Choose to enjoy your day no matter what comes your way. God is going to provide in any and every circumstance.
Love you all!
Andrea
