“So what are you expecting to happen on the World Race?”

I have been asked this question a few times and after thinking about it and reading many blogs of other racers, I have come to the conclusion that I shouldn’t set expectations for the World Race.  Each person’s experience is completely different and what you expect to happen may or may not happen.  There are so many different things that I want to happen, but I don’t know that they will.

So since I am a human being and have expectations just like everyone else, I will list a few of the ones that I came up with.

So here you go:

  • ·         I expect to be completely broken in every way and then built back up with God’s help.
  • ·         I expect to see God work in ways that I never thought He could.
  • ·         I expect to be taken completely out of my comfort zone.
  • ·         I expect to see a lot of poverty-stricken towns.
  • ·         I expect to meet many people who will change my life forever.
  • I expect to get homesick every once in a while.

As for what else I expect to happen…well honestly, I have been sitting here for the past ten minutes and I can’t think of anymore expectations.  All I know is that it is going to be a life changing experience and I can’t wait to see what happens.

It is going to be a challenge because there may not be structure to what goes on each day.  Which for me, can be rough because I like knowing what is going to happen next; I like having order in my life.  But I think that is how God is going to work in my life.  He is going to show me that I don’t need to have control of everything; He is the one orchestrating my life and he has it all in his hands.

Jeremiah 29:11 says it all: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”  This verse has been a reassurance and a great reminder that God has everything in control.  I can’t wait to see what He has in store for me and my team!  It’s going to be great!
