random side note to begin this whole shindig… I never knew that tea was such a popular thing to drink or that tea sets were such a popular thing to want to have until coming on this race.  I must admit, I don’t really like tea all that much and I definitely have never been in the market for a tea set.  I guess I’m a coffee in a big mug type of girl, and I have no desire to change haha tea sets just seem so dainty and breakable…give me a gun instead and we’ll call it a day!  ok, enough of that tangent..back to the story…

We stayed at the house for a bit and then continued on our way to have dinner at someone else from the town’s house. After dinner, the family proceeded to give up their beds for us to sleep in for the night

God provided everything for us on this little adventure – God provided every meal we ate, water to drink, a place to sleep.

There was a lot of alcoholism going on – at first we thought it was just for the Tet New Year (Feb 2nd, that lasts for 3 days)..but then it never stopped. They’d ask if we’d like some ‘wine’ which actually meant straight shots of vodka. This went for dinner celebration to a good morning celebration as early as 8am. The women of the villages eat/chew on these plants that get them high all while making their teeth turn black and their saliva red from the plant juice…it was quite the sight. Everyone that lived in the village was really nice and welcoming. There were 2 kids that were 20 yrs old that study up in the bigger city in northern vietnam that were home for the new year, so the few words they spoke of english ended up helping a ton.

I wish I could give you a clear picture of what our couple of days in the unknown looked like, but perhaps that will have to wait until we see eachother in person J

Now, we’re back in what feels like home before we head another couple hours north for a few days.  The day after we got here, we must have gone to at least 6 different homes for tea…if you haven’t caught on, inviting people for tea is what they do here 🙂

As far as I go, I’m doing just grand! I’m super healthy even though im surviving on crackers, Oreo’s(dad, I know you’re probably jealous of this), tea and little candies…oh, and we have our usual chicken (at least thats what we hope it is) sandwhiches down the street. More blogs to come that tell more about our times here. It’s been really good- it’s hard to paint a true picture, but I try. I hope you’re all doing great.  I appreciate all of your blog comments and emails sooo much.  The weather is quite chilly up here; it feels like fall in Michigan.  It actually feels more like Christmas now than it did in December haha ah well, love you guys <3
