Well. Here we are in Rukungiri, Uganda.
We had one of the most ridiculous experiences trying to get from Kampala to Rukungiri.
So, we arrived in Kampala on Sept. 6 at around 12:30-1 in the afternoon. No big deal. All we had to do was make our way to another bus park, board our bus and be on our way.
Easy, yeah?
Nope. Jokes on us.
We made it to the bus station, got on our bus and sat down, waiting to leave within the hour. At least, that's what we were told. We ended up sitting on the bus for a little over five hours, just waiting to get our 8-hour bus ride going.
So around 6pm, we finally left the station.
As we were maneuvering the insanely busy streets of Kampala, the bus wouldn't shift gears very well. The transmission was terrible. We stopped at a gas station to fill up and some mechanics tried to work on the bus.
Their attempts were futile.
So, after another hour and a half, they drive another bus to the gas station that we all board.
At about 8, we were FINALLY on our way.
But let me just tell you, I have never seen so much psychotic traffic before coming to Kampala.
Seriously. It was absolutely wild.
We sat in it for about an hour.
Technically, we didn't leave Kampala until about 9pm after arriving at 12:30. LONG DAY.
And we still had about 8 hours to go.
Oh and by the way, there was music BLARING all night long. Haha. That was the icing on this mess of a cake.
My teammates and I just prayed and prayed that God would protect us, protect the bus, guide our journey, give us rest because traveling at night is quite daunting.
Despite the inconveniences and challenges, I had such a confidence that God was with us and that He was going to take us where we needed to go.
And sure enough, He did.
We pulled up into the church offices at 4am on the 7th.
Our contact, Pastor Enoch, had "supper" waiting for us.
So.
There we were.
Exhausted, tired, weak, eating "supper" at 4am.
All I could do was laugh.
Laugh and thank God for bringing us through such a rough night.
God was so faithful to us.
He sent us Pastor Enoch's brother, Ambrose, the manager of the bus station that we were waiting in. He took such good care of us. He got us on the right bus, bought us all cold water, checked on us frequently. Even after we left, he called me numerous times to make sure we were all ok.
Pastor Enoch called me almost every hour, as well.
I was so thankful.
God was totally with us, all night long, covering us, guiding us.
He even gave my team incredible attitudes.
He gave us the ability to just roll with the punches. SO GRATEFUL.
Needless to say, we made it and we're here in Rukungiri, ready to spread God's unending love around.
Every Saturday this month, we have the opportunity to minister to the Compassion Children in the area. We are also going door to door to pray for people and love on them.
How exciting. What a privilege!
So. That was our first insane bus adventure of the World Race. I am sure there will be more to come 🙂
P.S. Please watch the movie Furious Love. It will open your eyes to just how big God is and just how much His love conquers.
