Meet the grandmother of one of the girls we are working with this month.

This is a house where she lives in her tribe with nearly 300 people.

Ministry this month looks a lot different than before.  Thailand is the home of the largest red light district in the world.  It is common for parents and grandparents to sell their children for money to provide for their families.  As disturbing as this is, as gut wrenching and heart breaking as this is – it is truth, and it is the life that many fall into.

But there is Hope.

This month, my team is working with an organization that works to prevent this.  They work to help children who have a high likelihood of ending up in the sex trade and provide for them when their families cannot.  Families who are unable to provide, are able to bring their children to the homes where they will receive housing, meals, schooling and a new extended family full of brothers, sisters, house parents and more staff that love them.  They are also in the process to provide vocational learning.  As well as providing sustainable living with hundreds of fruits, vegetables, and fish.

We will be doing manual labor during the day, and helping the kids with homework and building relationships with them in the evenings.  There is something special about this place.

I can’t begin to explain the facts that I am learning about the sex industry right now.  But, I recommend reading the book “Only 13” by Julia Manzanares and Derek Kent to get a better understanding.  It is a story of a girl from the area I am living in – Chiang Mai and how she fell into the sex trade at the young age of 13.  Its difficult to read -but don’t pretend like this isn’t reality.
