Fundraising has never been enjoyable for me. I am not a salesperson. I do not like asking people for money. Actually, I don’t like asking for help at all.
On the flip side, I love to help people. I love giving. I believe in Jesus’ words “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). To my logical mind this seems backwards- isn’t the person receiving the gift the one who is more blessed? No. I have found from personal experience when I give, I feel an unexplainable joy and overwhelming peace. This is a blessing no one can take from me.
Isn’t funny how something we believe our thinking makes sense until the double standard is pointed out to us? I love to give, but I don’t offer others the chance to do the thing I love. I believe and have experienced that it is more blessed to give than receive, but I don’t allow or encourage others to give and receive the same blessing as me.
I know my life will be blessed, enriched, and better by giving my time, my energy, my prayers, and my money to advance God’s Kingdom globally by partnering and serving with Adventures in Missions through The World Race. I also want your life to be blessed. Perhaps you aren’t able to physically travel to the nations to proclaim the Good News of Jesus and make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) because of physical limitations, family, work obligations, etc. Don’t let that discourage you or keep you from being blessed. You have a part to play in what God is doing globally: prayer and giving financially!
Maybe giving or prayer seems insignificant compared to actually traveling overseas and preaching the gospel. Let me be the first to assure you that this is NOT TRUE! The Lord taught me this important lesson in Greece: cleaning out closets and picking up groceries is just as important as providing counseling for the survivors of human trafficking. In the same way, giving, prayer, and going are all important and needed. You have been invited to join the team and reach the nations for Jesus!
I want to leave you with this challenge: Try it. Give. See if Jesus’ words are true. Find out for yourself if your life is blessed through giving of your time in prayer and giving of your resources. See if you find fulfillment and purpose by joining the team and following Jesus’ commission to make disciples of the nations!
