Abandonment has negative connotations in our culture. It’s associated with rejection or giving up. At training camp, our director challenged us to leave some things behind in going on the World Race.
In Matthew 4:18-20 Jesus calls Peter and Andrew to come and follow him. They responded at once and left their nets behind.
I felt the Lord prompting me to leave my comfort and American lifestyle behind.. Don’t take things with me on the race to make my life comfortable or easier. I don’t need a shower bag, I can bath as the people do in the river or simply pour water over my head. I don’t need clothes to last me for several weeks. Clothes for three or four day is plenty. Many people around the world only have one or two sets of clothing.
I am creating space in my life for God to do things I have never experienced. When you create the space, God will fill it. Embrace the discomfort and allow God to be your comfort.
Are there things in your life that you need to leave behind? How can you make space in your life for God to fill?
