So the story starts with us working in a little village-y part of town here in Iquitos. We are partnered alongside a church here and have been visiting with the community during the days. My team stumbled across a family’s house on Monday and we have been back each day since. We can’t seem to tear ourselves away!
The family consists of four sisters who have all just had babies in the last 5 months. So, it is hard not to be drawn to this family with cute little babies everywhere. We have been visiting and holding and laughing and talking with them for the last few days, and it is so obvious to us that God led our feet to that house specifically.
On Tuesday, we were holding babies and talking to mamas, when one of the women asked us to tell her about Adam and Eve. Yeah, the Lord opens doors. So, we sort of looked around at each other in an excited and dumbfounded way, and I just started in with a semi-Sunday school explanation of Creation and the Fall of Man. Then, as their interest continued, the Lord just kept my mouth going as I shared about Jesus, why He came, and how He loves us. They were still listening intently and so I shared my testimony and about what God has done in my life.
It was so great! I am totally not confident in sharing the gospel and about my life in that kind of setting, but the Lord completely took away that fear and replaced it with His excitement and boldness.
As I was finishing up, we asked if they had any more questions or anything. They asked for prayer for themselves and all their babies, which was our joy and pleasure to do. We prayed over them and sat with them for a bit longer when the same woman who had asked about Adam and Eve asked me a question… to cut her baby’s fingernails for the first time.
I had been playing with her baby (2 months old) earlier and noticed her long, dirty nails and wondered why they didn’t cut them. It is apparently a tradition to have the Godmother cut the baby’s nails the first time so that the child will grow up like them. I was so honored and blessed and happy! God is so good. Because of Him and His story in my life, I got to take on this role in this little precious girl’s life!
