The Move
It was a cold Saturday morning in January. All those in their right mind were still sleeping or bundled up by the fire. I was not. My parents and I were trying to make a seemingly impossible puzzle come together–the puzzle of packing the car. We accomplished victory and set out on the road to Port Huron, Michigan. The journey had begun. We had two cars. Mom and I in one, and Dad blazing the trail in the other. The journey was rather uneventful, aside the giant Jesus sticking out of the ground on I-75, which caused a bit of laughter and head shaking. We stopped at the necessary rest stops, and battled the increasing amount of snow the more north we got. It was an enjoyable venture into unknown lands!
The House
Upon arrival at the house, we were greeted by my fellow Racers–
Caroline Crawford,
Matt Snyder,
Kim Daniels,
Rusty Jackson, and
Jake Rodriguez. I was jumped on by Caroline, in a jubilant reunion after 2 months that nearly knocked me over (Mom ran for the porch so she wouldn’t get attacked and fall in the snow!) and they all made the process of unpacking a bit more seamless than the packing process had been (that’s what community is for, right?!). I think Dad was glad to have the help of some other men! We got a tour of the house and got me all settled, and had fun having meet and greet time with my parents. And as you can see below, the house is adorable. It was built in the 1920s and is perfect for a home/office situation. The top floor is for the girls, the main level is our family living area and it has two rooms for the guys, and our offices are in the basement.
Here are some pictures of the house:
This is the front of the house, and the girls’ kitchen on the third floor.
The living room (Matt is cleaning, he is amazing at that!) and the dining room (Caroline is working there til we get desks!).
Our soon-to-be offices in the basement, and the guys’ kitchen on the main level.
And this is my room and my bed! It is cozy!
The Job
We had our first staff meeting on Monday. Ha ha. I don’t know how many people get to have their staff meetings in their living room, but I sure do feel blessed!
Michael Hindes led us through the basics of what this is going to look like. We have been getting our bearings, going through some training as we take on new responsibilities, and have been concentrating on how to tackle raising support so we can really dive into the Kingdom stuff without being strapped for money. But basically, we have been talking to potential racers, interviewing applicants, getting to know the staff in Georgia, and getting to know the community around here. We are leaving this next week to spend 5 days in Georgia strategizing and dreaming about the future of the Race. And as often as support allows, we will be traveling out to places with current racers to debrief and encourage. Jake said something cool though as we were gathered together the first time– “the nations are going to be changed from this house.”
So, that is our prayer–that this thing would be bigger than any of us has imagined, and that our generation would be awakened into who we are for the glory of God.
The Support
I wrote a blog recently talking more in depth about
the work I’m doing this year, and I hate coming back to this–so I apologize–but
this is an
unpaid job and it’s directly involved with mission work. And part of the package is that I must raise my own support.
I’m working on staff with the World Race
mobilizing a generation, raising up, training, and equipping missionaries to go
out into the field.
And like I said, I’m also scheduled
to go do some international travel several times this year, but can only do so
once there is money in my support account.
I’m trying to raise $20,000.
I know, it sounds like a lot, but broken down, it’s not so bad. If 400 people gave $50, or if 167 people could commit to a monthly donation of $10, I would be fully supported.
My goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of February. If you would like to help, please pray about
supporting me.
So… that’s the general update of what this whole thing looks like. I will keep posting stories about what’s going on and what God is doing as He moves and works! From a snowglobe in Michigan, sending my love!
