Surprise! I am in Botswana!

I didn’t exactly know that I was going to be in Botswana, but here I am. God is one heck of a travel agent, that’s all I can say.

The story goes like this…

Basically, we had to get out of South Africa because our visas expired. We didn’t know where we were going to go, how we were going to get there, or where we were going to stay once we got there. And we are running low on money for this month because of all the travel expenses.

So, the night of the 14th, we were sitting around the table in Cape Town, and a friend came over to the house who said he had a friend named Jacque in JoBurg. He called him, chatted for about 3 minutes, and it was done. We had a ride from the airport the next morning to Jacque’s house where he would keep us and feed us until we figured out where we were off to.

So, we land in JoBurg, are so blessed by Jacque and his family, spend the day at their farm, eat out for dinner, get ready for bed, and at the last minute ask if he knows anyone in Botswana because we felt like doors were closing to every other close country. He said, well, as a matter of fact, I do. He made a phone call, booked us some bus tickets, and said, okay, you leave in the morning.

We got on the bus in the morning, had a name and a phone number, and nothing else. We called this contact of Jacque’s, who was named Derek. Derek called a guy named Peter who said, give me an hour. We waited and watched South Africa pass by us through the bus windows. An hour passed and Peter called. “You have a place to stay with Abby. She will house you and feed you for as long as you need!”

Abby picked us up from the bus station that night, took us home to her very nice condo. Gave us each a bed, bought us pizza, and loved on us all night long.

We have been here for 3 days now, and we feel like part of the family. We have been to church with Abby and have spent the day with the Pastors of the church, praying and interceding. We went to a school to bless the teachers and pray over the grounds. We have been hanging out with Abby’s sister, Betty, who we have nicknamed Betty Crocker for her love of cooking.  And we have been learning, once again, to receive the blessing that are poured out over us.

Once again, we are in a situation where the best of the best is given, we are served hand and foot, we are loved and cared for, and we have to fight our pride and humbly receive.

God gave me a beautiful revelation yesterday that is so simple, but really just hadn’t sunk in until now. I am being served not by people, not by people who are poorer than I am, who are going without so that I can go with, but I am being served by Jesus Himself. These are my brothers and sisters, and they are being Jesus to me. I get so focused on being Jesus to other people, that I forget to let people bless me. It is a prideful mindset in itself. So, this has been yet another time where my pride is getting crushed, and God is providing in incredible ways.

Thank you, my God. You continue to surprise and amaze me. You have little treasures hidden for me around every corner it seems. Little bits and pieces for me to learn and grow. And you continue to reveal yourself and unlock more and more of my heart. Thank you, my Father.
