3 countries, 9 months. i chose where i will be living for 9 months.
like most seniors, deciding where to live and go to college after high school is a tough decision. some stay home, some stay close, and some go far. when i got accepted to do World Race Gap Year, i knew that i was going to go far – as in the other side of the world. when preparing for the day i would have to make a decision, i kept several places in mind such as Cambodia, Swaziland, and Thailand. i never knew why i wanted those places, i just thought they were cool countries to travel to.
finally the day came and the routes were released. and sure enough, i was faced with something i’ve never been good at.. decision making. i struggled between two different routes. one being Route 3: eSwatini (Swaziland), Ethiopia, and Cambodia. the first thing i thought when i saw this route was, “wow, two places i want.. this is the perfect decision.” then as i read down a little farther, Route 5 tugged at my heart in a way that made this so difficult.
when i prayed for this moment of picking where to do 9 months of life and ministry, i asked the Lord to send me where HE WANTS me and where i would be most challenged. i knew Route 3 had the places that I WANTED and i also knew that He so deliberately made Route 5 stand out for a reason. Route 5 didn’t have any of the places i was expecting so that made me a tad bit uncomfortable. then i remembered, being a Christ-Follower does not mean that it’s going to be easy or comfortable in any situation and i remembered why i said yes to this calling in the first place.. because He deserve all the glory and honor. i am saying yes, send me, i will go with full abandonment of comfort to Route 5.
i am so excited to be the hands and feet and to expand the kingdom in Romania, South Asia, and Costa Rica as it is in heaven.
i cannot wait to see what the Lord is preparing for me and for the beautiful lives in these countries. and to my squad mates, i love you all so dearly already and i can’t wait to do 9 months of life and ministry with you!!!
thank you for taking the time to read another bit of my heart and for following alongside me on this journey. i cherish all of you and i am thankful for how graciously you have been praying and giving.
with lots of love,
Anahi King
