There's a Wu-Tang song that says "Cash Rules Everything Around Me" and for a long time I thought that was the most accurate description of the world we live in.
Until I joined the World Race.
I have lost countless nights of sleep because of the numbers: 15,500. On many occasions, I treated this amount as if I would a debt. Asking myself, where I was going to get that kind of money? How was I supposed to raise all those funds? Blaming myself for not having a savings account…for not being financially responsible…for buying unnecessary things…
Me, me, me…
But God showed me this isn’t about me!
It’s up to Him to provide for my trip. All I have to do is say “yes”.
Easy enough, right?
Well, it was. Until I started saying yes.
Because, I found out, saying yes means exposing myself. It means putting myself in uncomfortable situations. Having honest conversations that put me in vulnerable positions. Having to face the truth when it hurts. Having to get up when it is easier not to.
Saying yes means being naked, weakened, rejected and sometimes even ashamed.
But through my obedience, I learned that saying yes also means surrendering my life to Him. It means that I am giving Him complete control. Not only over this trip, but over my whole being.
Saying yes means to follow Him without hesitation. And without knowing where, how and why.
During these last few months of preparation for the Race, when we're all fundraising and worried about being fully funded, I have learned the real lyrics are actually: God Rules Everything Around Me.
Including all the cash in the world.
He has provided for 65% of the funds so far. I believe He will provide the rest.
And in case He doesn't it's okay. 'Cause most importantly, HE RULES ME.
I have been listening to this song non-stop and I think it describes perfectly how I feel two days before arriving at Launch!!!
I am not yet fully funded but I am completely mind blown at His provisions and cares for me! The way He has used each person in my life to bring in donations, to cover me in prayers, and to provide encouragement, has been nothing less than perfect!
Shout out to CTK Cristo Rei Cambridge, my church, who has been my biggest supporter!
We have done a huge BBQ Fundraiser, and a very successful Yard Sale. There will be other events while I am away, so stay tuned 🙂
