Hello, all!
Believe it or not, this is my very first blog EVER in my life! This may shock those of you who know me but, rest assured, I’ll be a blogging pro by the time I have boots on the ground in South Africa 🙂
I grew up in a large family with 5 sisters. My first brother (in-law) was added to the mix this past summer and I have enjoyed every annoying minute with him. My sisters and I are all very close in age, very close at heart, and very, very different in personality! I am number 4 of the 6 and I suppose I have always been the “spontaneous” or “adventurous” one, although my adventures thus far seem pretty tame compared to what’s coming in July 2015!
I went through several different colleges, majors, and career paths before finally deciding that my priorities (money, career, grades, acknowledgement) were empty compared to the genuine passion the Lord had been cultivating in my heart for himself and for his people. I had been praying a generic prayer for what felt like FOREVER (Lord, where do you need me? Lord, what do you want me to do?) and all the while I had been pursuing the social norm: good college, good grades, good job, good money.
Well, let me be the first to tell you that Jesus challenges, trumps, and redefines the social norm in the hearts of believers! After stripping my heart of all expectation, God began to create in me a spirit of boldness and freedom.
The first act of obedience: applying to The World Race.
So, here I am! Figuring all of this out as I go! I can’t thank all of you enough for praying through this process with me and supporting me in so many different ways.
To my teammates: I am so looking forward to getting to know you and you getting to know me as well! I have been and will continue to be praying for you!
