This month we have partnered with a ministry in Lesotho called Africa 4 Jesus. We are in the Malealea Valley, which I’m convinced is the most beautiful place on earth.
Africa 4 Jesus is a ministry that seeks to make disciples of all nations through a discipleship program that trains young people to lead and teach God’s word. Africa 4 Jesus has established beautiful relationships with nearby villages, and their light extends all over this valley.
We don’t have much here, but I feel like we have everything. We’ve got community, love, grace, truth, and mountains surrounding us, and all is well. I was trying to think of how to best sum up my experience here and words fail me. A fun fact about me is that I write letters to God everyday, so I thought I’d share one with y’all to help ya gain a little insight on my amazing time here in Lesotho. Enjoy!!
August 29th, 2016,
Abba, what a day so far. I don’t deserve this family or these people. This morning the Mierke’s surprised me with flapjacks and flowers and gifts and balloons and I felt so loved, Lord. Then we had a dance party to Taylor Swift’s 22 with Rinsing and Sehola and everyone. Then I read the sweet happy birthday notes from back home, and I was just further reminded of how loved I am.
These are my people and this is my place. The Basotho welcome and celebrate like it’s their job. Thank you, God. You love me so well. We did village ministry this morning and were able to visit Celine again. She is hands down one of the biggest blessings of this month. She says we’re a blessing to her, but I think it’s the other way around.
Thank you, Jesus, for sunshine that comes out and stays out, for freshly washed feet and Chaco tans, for sweet friendships and lovely notes, for jam sessions with Jamie and Jon, and for all this grace. Sometimes you give me what I need, and sometimes you give me so much more. Today looked a lot like Heaven, full of laughter, love, and celebration. Thank you.
