Well, believe it or not, that’s exactly what God is to us. He is a southern gentleman who wants to treat us, his children, with respect, to continuously love us and present us with amazing opportunities. He wants to give us good gifts and that is what this month has showed us thus far.
You know God is a southern gentleman when:
He opens up doors for you
God has already done crazy things this month as he continues to open up doors for us to make new contacts. For example, while meeting with our first contact, Conexion, the Lord shut a door just as he opened another. We had plans for our first weekend that got canceled just as Conexion invited us to help them in a medical clinic for the exact weekend. We are going to have the chance to love on single women and their children while we help in the clinic.
He covers the bill
So, have you ever walked through a mall and been approached by a stranger who asked if he could buy your missionary team of 8 lunch? Yeah, well that happen to us. God put a gentleman named Ricardo in the mall for us to meet so that we could have a free meal! Nothing like “comida gratis” when you work with such a tight budget. ¡Gracias, Ricardo!
He treats you with respect
If you’ve ever met a southern gentleman, you know that treating you with respect is a priority. If you know the Lord, you know He does the same. He is always there to listen to you. He always has amazing advice. He cares so much about you and is always there when you need Him. He covers you with love.
He lets you know you are worthy
One of the best phrases I’ve learned thus far on the race is, “Soy digna” which means, “I am worthy.” The Lord tells us daily that we are worthy. I am worthy of His love, YOU are worthy of His love. Open your heart to feel and eyes to see how worthy you truly are of His love.
He protects you
A southern gentleman walks on the street side of the sidewalk, sits facing the door in a restaurant, and watches out for you when you are together. God has been watching out for us as we have moved around the world over the last few months. He has truly taken care of us. We have lived outside the murder capital of the world. We have ministered to slum communities. We have placed an entire month in His hands as He guides us to the contacts He has in His plan. He makes His plans known to us as we ask. Take time to ask the Lord what He has for you, you’ll be amazed at all He has to say.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always known there’s nothing better than a southern gentleman. I’ve grown up with the greatest southern gentleman I know, my daddy. God blessed me with a wonderful father, one that loves and cares so much and he has set the bar for how a gentleman should act. Not only that, but God has proven time and time again to be a southern gentleman.
Thank you, God, for being a southern gentleman. Thank you for showing me how we, as children, should be treated.
Thank you, Daddy, for always showing this love to your children and those you meet. You’re an amazing gentleman and father and the love you show others truly reflects the love of the Lord!!

Continue opening doors.
