It’s amazing how God speaks to us in the craziest ways sometimes, because sometimes that’s what it takes… When we are stubborn, He is consistent. When we run away, He is always right behind us. He lets us fail, and fail… over and over we fail. We all fall short, I fall short and in my shortcomings He picks me up, He breathes fire back into my life and this is where Blake Fowler comes in.

I had just spent a wonderful Thanksgiving week at home with my family, and was headed back to Louisville for my final week of work. In need of gas I pulled off at an exit and instantly doubted my decision as the 18-wheeler in front of me crept slowly down the ramp. Why am I so impatient that this bothered me?? But I had already committed so I waited my turn behind the truck. Then I waited my turn for a pump… I kept thinking, “Seriously?!?”  All I wanted to do was get gas, use the restroom and get back on the road, no need to waste time. No time to waste time, I had things to do. But God had other plans.

A constant reminder of Blake and his story.

As I walked quickly into the station I heard someone say, “How are you doing ma’am?” I answered, “Good, and how are you?” He responds, “Blessed!” It caught me off guard, but what a wonderful response, one that slowed me down. I came back out and looked at the table he was standing behind and although I wanted to run back to my car and hop on the road, I decided to talk with him a little about what he was doing. As it turns out Blake is an ex-heroin addict and has turned his life around.

He has found Jesus again and he is on FIRE for him! A total inspiration 🙂

I spent the next 30 minutes talking with Blake, listening to his incredible story. He experimented with drugs of all kinds, and in the midst of his desires to achieve his goals he continued to battle a useless fight; the grasp that the drugs had on him was too strong for him to fight alone. But by the grace of God he got caught breaking into a neighbor’s house. He was given an ultimatum; time in jail or entering into a program where he would go through an intense detox and a yearlong journey with an organization called “Life Changers“.

He has been in the program for 3 months now and the fire that he has burning inside of him set a flame back in my heart! PRAISE THE LORD!! Lately I have felt myself losing focus on where I was going and what God had for me. Thank you Blake for your story, your inspiration, and your “pit-bull Christian attitude.”

God is everywhere. He is waiting for you to come back to Him. Take the time and seek Him today. You are never too far, never too bad, never too messed up. He loves you!

It’s all worth fighting for…

On fire for Him,

Amy

I invite you to pray for Blake as he continues the program. Pray that he hangs on to Christ, that he remembers the healing he received during his detox, that he continues to see how much God loves him and that he is WORTHY of that love!!!
