Ten years ago, Dusty DeBoef was fighting his addiction to drugs and alcohol while his wife waited for him at home. She watched the money disappear from the bank account as she felt her husband slowly disappear from her life. Thankfully, despite Dusty’s fleeing from the Lord, his family had brought him up in a strong Christian home. He still knew God was there despite his efforts to shake him off. After being arrested again, Dusty knew something needed to change, he knew that a life after the Lord would be more rewarding than this empty life he was leading.

Dusty replaced his desire for drugs with His desire to follow the Lord. He enrolled in Seminary and allowed the Lord to change the trajectory of his life. As he and his wife, Dawn, started to pray about where the Lord had them. Assuming they would pastor a church in the States, they started interviewing. Despite open doors and loving churches they visited, they didn’t feel peace about any particular church. Where was it that God was calling them?

After a perfectly timed mission trip to the Philippines, God spoke to this couple through several street boys in the city of Manila. And after much prayer and a donation from Dusty’s grandfather, Dusty and Dawn are now living in Legazpi City. Here in the Philippines they are providing food, clothing, shelter, education, and most importantly Christ’s love to twenty kids from 1-16 years old. They love these kids with all their heart, and they fight for them everyday.

I was so grateful to spend the month with this couple loving on their kids. Drugs… I don’t need drugs. I need Jesus!
