So, everyday we can look to the south of Antigua and see a volcano smoking! There are a few active ones around and we wanted to get a closer look! A group of us got a tourbus and headed out for a halfday visit to the Pacaya volcano. Here we are part way up the volcano hike, looking over Guatemala City.

We arrived at the base of the lava field as the sun was parallel to us, and we were at the same level as the clouds!! Amazing sunset! Made for a really cool silouette…

Walking up the lava field…feels so light and airy under your feet, and warm to touch! We started feeling the warmth around this point.

We got within about 15 ft of the flowing lava! It was so awesome! One group brought up marshmellows to roast!! You could see the lava moving and the rubber soles of some peoples’ shoes melted!
