2 other neat ministries we got to be a part of while in Phuket are a Burmese refugee camp and meeting with a lady named Add.

Burmese refugees escape down here to find jobs, but are met with much resistance from the Thai people and gov’t. The children are not allowed to attend schools, refugees are often mistreated, and many have “gone missing” never to be found again. They are beautiful people- we take dinner over to them and have a Bible study- they are so grateful and friendly! Check out Chris’s blog for more on this- his heart has really been burdened for these people and he is working on a video to raise awareness!

Add is a Christian lady who had basically no earthly possessions when Mark and Sharon met her, but she has unshakeable faith in God to provide for all of her needs. 2 children were dropped off at her doorstep to be taken care of and she has mothered them for many years. Mark and Sharon recently built her a house, and we were blessed to do some painting, cleaning, decorating (I got to make curtains!:), pampering (what woman doesn’t enjoy this!), and bringing food over. She is a light in her poor community as she shares the love of Jesus with her neighbors and is strong in her faith! Joy and I went to say g-bye the morning we left and Add held on to us for a long time and voiced through tears how we were true friends like she has never had before, and asked us to return quickly. Nom-Nam clung on and wanted to come with us! It was SO hard saying goodbye to Phuket- to this dear family, to our friends at the bars, and to our family at SHE!! I fell in love with this place, which completely took me by surprise as Asia was the continent I have never even had the desire to come to! The Lord had other plans though, and He has captured my heart for these people and this ministry more than anywhere else so far! One of the hardest things about this year is all the goodbyes we have to say, but just as the Lord sent us to love them and care for them as tangible representatives of Him, He will continue to watch over them and send more workers into all of these harvest fields!!
