As I stood, worshipping at church on a Sunday morning a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help but fight back tears; overwhelming tears that started to stream down my face as I could only stand and listen to the words I was presenting before Christ.

OPEN HANDS

To give unselfishly

To love the least of these

Jesus I’m learning how to live with open hands

All these treasures that I own

Will never satisfy my soul

Jesus I lay them at your throne with open hands

I lift my hands open wide

Let the whole world see

How you love, how you died

How you set me free

Free at last I surrender

All I am with open hands

With open hands

To finally let go of my plans

These earthly kingdoms built of sand

Jesus at your cross I stand with open hands

You took the nails

You bore the crown

You hung your head

Your love poured out

You took my place

You paid the price

So Jesus now I will give my life

– Music and lyrics by Matt Papa

I LOVE listening to our pastor’s sermons every week, they are always filled with great humor and amazing insight and encouragement; but I have always had a stronger connection to music and lyrics.

This song has been speaking to me a lot lately of how I am still LEARNING how to give unselfishly and lay down all of my possessions at his feet.

Jesus doesn’t need my money, my gifts, my earthly valuables.  He doesn’t even need me.  But he WANTS me.  Why not give up the temporary items that will vanish soon enough for not only serving Him for now, but being with Him for all eternity?

I know I have a long way to go and this is a great place to start.

I want the whole world to see me living with open hands for Him.
