I am writing this blog from the plane that just took off from NYC. (This is being posted a month after writing…Internet in India=non-existent) After 3 months of ministry in South America, I got to spend about 15 hours in my home state during a layover in route to India. It was not easy being that close to home after being so far away for the past 3 months.

I have been homesick since the start of the Race and I’m pretty sure it won’t go away until the day I get back, which is pretty awesome! I 100% say that with 0% sarcasm. I came to realize that there is a reason I am homesick. It’s because I’ve got something good. Something really good.

I have a family back home that I love soooo much it hurts and who all love me so well. I have a best friend who I could (and did and will) spend like all my time with, who I have more fun with than anyone on the planet, and encourages me in my walk with the Jesus, along with many other friends who do the same. I have an incredible church that challenges me and church community that I love serving with and growing with. I also absolutely love Rochester, where I’m from. I miss spending my days off in my awesome city sipping on delicious coffee at Starry Nights 🙂 I’m pretty sure people on my squad know more about Rochester than they ever cared to. I so look forward to being back there and living alongside all of the people I love so much in 8 months.

I read a blog by a World Racer before launch about making sure that your heart is where your feet are, about leaving home behind and being fully where you are serving each month. I can’t do that. I wouldn’t want to. My heart, above all, is the Lord’s and where He calls I will gladly go. But, a piece of my heart will always be with my family, my friends, my church family, and my city. That doesn’t mean that I can’t be present here or enjoy being where my feet are. I am filled with sooooo much joy doing what the Lord has called me to for this season in my life. My heart is in Rochester, NY but it has also been in Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and will be in India, Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malawi, and Zambia.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about and miss all of those people and places and things that make my home my home. I am so thankful that God blessed me with a life back home that is missable!
