Team Changes
We had a final team change just before arriving in Honduras, and I was
placed on a new team with all new people. These were people who I knew
of, but had basically no relationship with. I was a little nervous. It
felt like going back to training camp where I didn’t know anyone, and
didn’t know if they would like me or not. Would I fit in? Would they
form their little groups of those who had already been on a team with?
Would I be left out all alone with no one to be my friend?
I was also worried when I found out that most of my new teammates
would not put children’s ministry on the top of their favorites list…
I was scared that leadership would see that the majority of my team
prefers manual labor, and stick us in that type of ministry for the
last three months.
But again, God knows me better than I could ever know myself. He knows
what scares me and shows me that I can trust Him to make the scary
things into good things.
It turns out one of my new teammates roomed with me during PVT, so I
had gotten to know her a bit. And after living like we have for the
past 8 months, we formed a lot of the same experiences. It turns out
we have a lot in common. I was worried about not feeling included, but
these guys are awesome. They reached out and welcomed me into this
team.
And while, yes, the main focus of our month in Honduras was supposed
to be manual labor, the host family has 5 kids! And every Friday they
had two kids Bible studies. I got to be a homeschool teacher for the 4
year old girl, and still got to organize games and stories and crafts
for the groups each week.
Yes, there was still manual labor, but it turned out to be really fun
too, and for that part of the story you will have to read the next
blog!
