Guatemala

This was one of the months I was most looking forward to when I signed up for the race. 4 years ago I almost came on a trip to this country. Now I’m here. Surrounded by the beauty of active volcanos, wonderful people, and a perfect climate.

But ministry was difficult for me this month. We are doing my favorite thing in the world-working at a school. But the first week was a little chaotic as things usually are the first few days in a new country.  We struggled to figure out what we were supposed to be doing. The only person in the whole school who spoke English was the 19 year old English teacher. We thought we were coming to teach, or at least assist the English teacher. But we ended up just basically watching him teach. Confused, we had our host try to figure out if there was something we were supposed to do. But it seemed as if that was all we were going to do. Due to a holiday and another project, this was a very short week. And the schools in Central America are only half days compared to ours. So it seemed even shorter.

Then for the second week I was at home for my grandma’s funeral. (Read previous post about going home)

And then I came back.

And it was another short week. We ended our ministry early so some of my team could hike a volcano.

I never learned the kids’ names.

I hate that.

This month went by too fast. And next month is my last month! Soon I will be coming home.

So, for this next month, I am really praying that God will help me stay focused on the present and not getting lost in thinking about home. I don’t really know what I will be doing yet, but we are going to be living on an island in Belize! So I definitely don’t want to miss anything!
