Sorry, I know I haven’t posted in two months… first month I really
don’t have an excuse, this last month I blame wifi, or rather the lack
of it. So, here’s me trying to catch up… there will be a few posted
all at once.
El Salvador
(March)
Wow! The moment I stepped out of the airport, I was amazed by the
beauty of this country! This month my team is working with a YWAM
base. We help with their feeding program-feeding 80+ kids twice a
week, as well as doing a discipleship class for their parents, and a
youth program every week. We also have gone to the local university
and practiced English with the language students. And we visited a
hospital to hand out free coffee and cookies. We have also gone to the
ocean to see black sands and huge waves, we went to a national park
and hiked a dormant volcano, and we swam in a lake that was in the
crater of another volcano.
I know it sounds like we did a ton, but it was spread out enough that
this month was also very restful. The people who lived at the base
were some of the coolest people I’ve met so far! They were super
friendly and loved teaching us new Spanish words. They were super
encouraging, and kind. This base was alive and filled with the Holy
Spirit. Every week they did this cool thing called the “Prophetic
Chair”. It sounds strange, I know, but it was really awesome. One
person would sit in a chair and all the rest in the group would sit
around them. We spent a few minutes praying and asking God for any
word or image of encouragement for the person. Then we shared what we
thought we had heard, and ended with declarations. It was powerful. I
was pretty bummed out that we ran out of time for me to get a chance
in the chair, but God is so awesome that He knew what was planned for
the next month.
At debrief-before we started ministry for the next month-our leaders
had basically done this same thing for EVERY ONE of us on the whole
squad! They prayed for us all and wrote down what they felt God wanted
to say to us! The words were very encouraging and just what I needed
to hear. And at the end of debrief I signed up to have a breakfast
with one of the leaders and she again brought words she felt God
wanted to say to us.
I missed out on one thing that I was really hoping for, but God,
‘cause he’s awesome like that, turns it around and gives me a double
portion of it. I love it!
