Okay, so I just cannot put this off any longer. Sorry that I’ve neglected to tell you about our incredible ministry site here in Thailand. For the past week, we have been living in Chaingmai about ten hours from BangKok. We have been serving alongside YWAM once again, but it is much different here than in Malaysia. Throughout the country of Thailand, YWAM has more than 70 different minstiries ranging from working alongside sex trafficking to loving on children in orphanages.
We found SNOW in Thailand!!
Lighthouse in Action is where two of our teams this month have been serving. The ladies from team Deep Roots work alongside the prostitutes and pimps of Chaingmai. Every night they begin at 7:30 p.m. with a time of worship in order to pave the way before going out and into the local bars. It is here where they simply go and begin to build relationships with these women, men, and ladyboys, yes ladyboys. Through Lighthouse in Action, two other ministries have spawned from the heart of the main contact, Emmi. It is here where the ladies of Gozo are serving: Wongen Kafe and Door2Door. (It’s man month, so no Brian on our team for Thailand…don’t forget to check his blog to see how God is working in the lives of the men).
I have been living above Wongen Kafe right across from a college campus. Ideal spot, right? I am simply loving it and wish that I could do this for a period of my life. There are smoothies, food, cheesecake, coffee, icecream you name it. Best part about the food is that it is cheap! $1 smoothy? Come on now, I don’t know if I could find that back home…
WonGen has been open for roughly 1
year. Almost every night of the week, they have free english lessons for Thai students, on Saturday nights, Praise and Worship, and they are in the process of implementing other events. Phenominal! There are different rooms above the cafe that house college students, other YWAM staff, and the beautiful women who work here. It has been such a joy serving alongside the staff of WonGen and getting to know them! Wongen is also a safe place for girls that are brought out of prostitution to live. Not too long ago, a previous World Race team helped to rescue a 17 year old girl from prostitution. She is beautiful and has such a sweet spirit to her. Bie now attends college and works in the Kafe at night. It is incredible to see all that is happening here.
This week has been awesome to watch God move even when most of us feel like our days go by so slow. Since WonGen is somewhat new, we have been helping promote the Kafe by passing flyers out. Jon (prounounced Yawn–he is from Holland) has been helping us with this. Around lunchtime, we would go to the campus to pass these bad boys out and at night, we’d hit up the market. Now, I am not one to love marketing, but I think God is beginning to change my mind on that one. I will say that it is awesome to see people come into this place all because of a simple flyer. God is good and is working in this place like no other!
game night we put together…scrabble to help with english
Door2Door is our other ministry, but I’ll save that for the next blog 🙂
Thanks so much for all your support! God is moving! Keep praying for the people of Thailand and that God will continue to use LIghthouse In Action as well as Wongen Kafe. Blessings!
