Do you remember the movie Birds where people get attacked relentlessly by them? Well, this is exactly how I felt the other day, but instead of birds it was monkeys…

I went to our rooftop to spend some time with Papa before I headed out to lunch with some teammates. Before I knew it my time was over and Erin came up to get me. I finished up what I was doing and began to head down five minutes later. As I approached the doorway, I was stopped dead in my tracks to a stare down with a monkey. Now I’m not talking some cute little animal…NO it was one huge, ugly sucker.

Literally petrified, I walked away from the door and started praying. I began to slightly panic because I had no way of communicating with my teammates because they were stories down from me. I was stuck on top of a roof!!! Thought after thought began to run through my mind. After two minutes, I decided to do a walk by to scope out the situation. Sure enough, the little stinker was still there.

I walked to the edge in hopes of finding help. To my surprise, Samara was walking back. I hesitated and did not know what to do. Finally I yelled down at Samara in a shakey voice, “Can you grab a stick because I am trapped by this monkey.” Ha, Samara could sense the fear in my voice, but had no clue what to do. All the while, the neighbors were yelling monkey and laughing. Gee thanks ladies!

As the last words left my mouth, there was this creature jumping on me much like a dog would.
THERE WAS A MONKEY ON ME!!

Scared out of my mind, I looked forward and walked away slowly. “No eye contact, no eye contact” ran through my mind. The monkey began to follow me, then stopped. GloriaDios! As I came upon the next set of stairs, another monkey was in my path. My insides were freaking out! I could see one of the neighbors standing on their balcony, stick in hand, trying to scare those suckers away.

I just kept looking foward as I walked down the stairs. I passed Samara trying to hold back the tears. Then the Landlord raced up the stairs passed us. He attempted to grab my hand to make me go back up there with him. Heck No…those creatures just jumped all up on me! After that, I was finally safe and sound in our room.

As I think about it now, it is quite hilarious. I mean, a monkey was just all up on me in the middle of a city!! Really?! They run this place like stray cats would in the States. At least now I can sympathize with people when I see them run into their homes due to monkey invasions. No joke, it took me two weeks until I was able to muster up the courage to go back on the roof during the day time. Silly, I know, but hey I’m sure you wouldn’t want any monkeys jumping up on you.

So, if you are ever in Dehli, beware of the monkeys because they hold nothing back!! You might even see one sporting red lipstick. With monkeys, you just never know.

they think they own the street!
