The other day the Lord put this question on my heart: What kind of woman do you want to be? And it left me really quiet for quite some time as I realized I have a long way to go to be this woman I desire to be and who God created me to be. Some of the characteristics and things of the heart will come about by habits and disciplines I set in place. Others will come by the grace of God and through trusting in Him. And that is hard because I want to control how this all happens and I wish I could just be all these things now.
But BECOMING takes time. I am glad God is taking me around the world to become the daughter, sister, girlfriend and later wife, friend, Jesus lover, teammate, and social worker He needs me to be. A new Amy is in the making because I am surrendering to His working out of all these things in my life, character, and heart. If you have any helpful scripture that I could meditate on concerning this list please send it my way! I am making a stack of note cards! SWOG in progress!
Something that Judi Miller always told me was, “we have to do everything we can do and then God will do the rest.” In praying through this list the Lord encouraged me that some of these things He has built into my character and personality. He told me to pursue what I can and leave the rest up to Him. He spoke to my heart to step out, pray, and trust.
In the devotional Jeni Cave gave me I read, “The Lord doesn’t see only what we are right now, He sees what we can become.” I believe the Lord wants to work out so much in each of us so that we may be mature and complete not lacking in anything. It is surrendering to the ways He wants to work these things out that I think is difficult. For example, learning patience usually comes with a little testing and a situation calling for some patience. Dying to self doesn’t feel good. Killing my flesh isn’t necessarily painless, but I do long to become the woman God created me to be and sees me as.
