At our last ministry site we had amazing contacts who poured into us so much. Any time we got to be with them I made sure to be fully engaged with what they were talking about. I couldn’t help but be engaged in the conversation because I was so thirsty and their words were like drinking cold water. Jonny and Bex are so full of the Holy Spirit and have challenged and encouraged me in multiple ways. I want to share with you one of the things they talked about with us.
It all started with Ashli asking, “How did you start hearing the voice of God?” And from there every word and every story made so much sense. One thing you should know about Fierce Pursuit is that we are all so thirsty/hungry (whichever way you want to put it—we just want more of God.) Jonny and Bex said they became like children and started practicing listening. In a parent-child relationship, the parent is responsible for the accuracy of the message being communicated. If my dad tells me to do something, then I am going to do it. And in our case, the voice of the Father will always be louder than the voice of the deceiver. Jonny and Bex had fun with listening. They took walks and the Lord would tell them which way to turn. When they went grocery shopping they put in the cart what He told them to. While walking on the beach they would ask God what people’s names were and go up to them and say, “is your name so-and-so?” Sometimes they were wrong and when they started being right they were like, “oh-okay God what now?!” What I learned is that my God doesn’t just want to talk to me when He wants to tell me what to do. He wants to talk to me just because I am His baby girl.
However, once we hear the voice of God we are obligated. Because we can either obey or turn our backs on Him. That is why He spoke in parables, because He knew some weren’t ready to hear/receive the message. When people went off and reasoned they dismissed His teachings. Most things He tells us won’t make sense, and yet they will if we really meet with Him and intimately experience Him.
While they were talking, I saw myself jumping up and down before the Lord saying, “Daddy, Daddy!” I think He wants me in that place of learning His voice. I want to hear the voice of my Father just because I am His baby girl. I also want to know Him so intimately that when He speaks direction to me I listen and obey. Lord teach me to focus on you and do and say and love as you speak to me.
