Here is my support letter that I sent out.

 

Dear friends and family,

I hope you are all doing well and have had an enjoyable summer.  I am writing to inform you of an important and exciting decision I have recently made.  Many of you know my journey to serve Jesus by serving his people in other cultures.  Since I graduated college in 2010 I have desired to serve abroad on a more permanent basis.  However, the Lord’s timing is perfect and he knew that I needed to be home.  I thank you all for your prayers and support over the last few years during my mom’s struggle with cancer.  God was truly working through you to provide for our comfort and family needs.  

I recently learned about an opportunity that perfectly fits who I am.  The World Race is an 11 month trip to serve in 11 countries: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Thailand, Cambodia, China, India, Nepal, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.  I am doing this because God called us to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”  God gave a command and I’m following it.  You might ask, “Can’t you make disciples just as well in the US?  Why do you need to go somewhere else to do it?”  This is true, but God gave me a strong desire to participate and learn about other cultures and nations.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t serve at home.  I have loved my time serving at Gurnee Community Church and Love INC.  Now God is calling me to connect with those who only eat one meal a day, who aren’t able to worship freely, and who don’t have parents to protect them.  I am excited to work alongside a team to comfort orphans, teach English, give sermons, play street soccer, and tell those caught in human trafficking about Jesus.

However, I cannot follow this calling without your assistance.  Please pray for me, my team, the local ministries we will be serving with, and the people we are going to serve.  Financially, I will do what I can to pay for flights to/from the U.S., all the gear I need, vaccinations, etc.  None of this includes the $16,285 I need to raise to complete the World Race.  That includes international travel, food, and shelter.  I need $4000 by late September and $7500 by mid December.  I know you have supported me in the past and I thank you for your investment.  Please consider continuing that investment through my participation in the World Race.  I thank you in advance for your consideration.

  1. Donate a certain amount each month.
  2. Donate one time

The way to do this is:

  1. Go to theworldrace.org or go to my blog at amydeming.theworldrace.org
  2. Click the “give” button at the top right of the orange bar.
  3. Click “donate now to the world race” button in orange
  4. Select “Support a world racer” and put my name (Amy Deming) in the blank.
  5. Select an amount and click “continue”.
  6. Continue following the steps.
  7. To send checks, make payable to Adventures in Missions, P.O. Box 534470, Atlanta, GA, 30353. Put my name on the memo line and fill out the AIM slip to record your donation.
