I met a woman today. Her name is Katherine.

When I met Katherine she was sitting outside a little neighborhood bar.

She had two drinks in front of her and was having a lively
conversation with the others at the table.

I sat down across from her. She asked me what I was drinking.

I had iced tea and she wanted to try it. So I poured her some.

She was surprised to find that it was in fact tea and not something a bit stronger.

We started to ‘talk.’

It was less like talking and more like gestures with a lot of smiles.

One of our translators came over and I learned what she was telling me.

She’s been a widow for 35 years and she’s lonely.

She thanked me for talking with her.

I was able to encourage her and remind her of the ever present,
unfailing love of Jesus.

She believes in God and says He comforts her.

I prayed for her and then we hugged and laughed and smiled for the camera.

And then I left.

10 minutes

That’s all we had.

As we’ve been walking around talking with strangers
I sometimes wonder if it makes a difference.

Are we changing anything? ? ? ?

Today, I know the answer.

Today, the answer is yes.

For me and, I believe, for Katherine the answer today is yes.

It was short, it was simple and it changed things.
