Last week I got on a bus headed to Mpeketoni, Kenya.

I had been told a lot of things about buses in Africa, but still didn’t really know what to expect.
The only thing I knew for sure was that this bus ride would last a minimum of 12 hours.
In reality this bus ride from Nairobi to Mpeketoni took about 14 hours and was full of all kinds of crazy things.
Not only did the bus provide us with the long distance transportation we needed, it also provided local transportation for the people who live along the way.
The bus stopped often and lots of people got on and off and I enjoyed seeing the different people and things get on and off.
Waking up from one of the many naps I was so thankful for, I looked across the aisle to see a man with a pretty large gun.
Please don’t worry, he was a soldier and they apparently ride these buses all the time.
Soon after that we stopped again and a prisoner of some kind was escorted on the bus. Once again nothing to be afraid of…the soldiers were already there to keep things in line J
A couple hours later, when I think I’ve just about seen everything that I could see on this bus, a woman gets on carrying a chicken under her arm. A live, clucking, squawking chicken.
I am super excited to finally be in Africa. This month my team will be working with team Powerhouse at Christ the King International Pentecostal Fellowship in Mpeketoni, Kenya.
I have loved getting to know the people in this small community and I’m truly enjoying the beauty here in Kenya.
