We are partnering with Christian Surfers Ministry this month in Jaco, Costa Rica.  Our first task was to roam the beach in search of sea glass, sea beans, and drift wood to make goods to sell for a fundraiser.  Before we began, Ashley, the other group’s team leader, led us in prayer.  “Dear Lord, Please help the unseen to be seen.”  I don’t know if you’ve ever combed the coast looking for sea glass, but it can be no small task.

At first it was difficult to spot the glass among the rocks and broken sea shells, but the longer we looked, the easier it became.  The same was true for the sea beans (which ironically don’t look anything like beans… maybe small hamburgers, but they are most definitely not bean shaped).  While the search was on, the Lord convicted me.  See I signed up for the Race thinking that through this journey He would show me gifts and strengths I never knew I had.  I’m learning, that just like the glass, He is revealing the gifts and talents He has already placed inside me. I just haven’t looked for them.  It’s month 3 in the Race and He has already brought so much to the surface.

During one of our beach walks we were asked to listen to the Father and write down a word of encouragement which would later be passed out to one of the team members.  These are the words I received from my dear friend Crystal…

“Your life is like the sea, ever changing, and in each change God’s love radiates out through you and you will grow even more beautiful than before.  Each wave is created different, unique, and so are you.  Be confident in who you are and who God is creating you to be, the process may be difficult but when you decide to let God to take hold it’s be like surfing along with the wave instead of paddling out against the current on your own.  Be at peace, God has you in His hands.

This song also came to mind:  “You Know Me” by Bethel Music

I am confident that this is exactly where the Lord has called me to be in this very moment.  I am growing, changing, but most importantly, drawing closer to Him in the process.  Searching for sea glass and allowing Him to bring to the surface who He has created me to be.
