Tears filled my eyes as I listened to the pastor… “Have you ever been to a church without walls? Many of these people began meeting under shade of the tree. You left your family, your friends, your home to serve us, a people in need.” I looked around at the temporary structure, I thought to myself “This is church.” A community that seeks to love and serve the Father.

The Gospel has spread so fast here, “God himself created 8 churches.” said the pastor.  This one in particular has been rebuilt several times due to flooding and now its congregation is too large to fit in the tiny mud home. The building we helped to construct is approximately 24 by 36 feet and has about 30 regular members in attendance.

It is I who have been blessed beyond words to be here, to serve these people, to be a small part of their story.

“We were chosen before the beginning of time.” He went on to say. It’s funny because for whatever reason this month I have struggled with feelings of doubt… I am on this journey ten years too late, I’m not married etc.

I did all the right things. I was a “good Christian girl,” people knew what I stood for, I went to school, got a degree, then a Master’s, secured a great job, bought a car, even saved for my first home, but none of this made me happy. For the most part, I’ve tasted the American Dream and it didn’t matter, none of it mattered. I was stuck.

As we walked back from tea, the Pastor shared that an elder lady in the church couldn’t believe we would leave our parents, families, all of our belongings in America to come to India and serve them.

This is the life that God’s chosen for me, I am exactly where He wants me to be. A good friend and squad mentor reminded me how God is proud of my obedience. And to praise him for where he has me and where he is bringing me.

When people welcome us into their villages, into their homes, hearts, and lives. I thank the Lord that I have been chosen for this very task, to spread his light and love across the Nations.
